Quite a few people have decided that becoming a CNA is affordable and easy enough to do and that it’s a career they can manage without too much effort. Of course, they do not look at the long term care that needs to be administered on their part. In addition, the duties that they have to perform usually become more than they can handle.
It takes a very special person to actually want to be a CNA in order to handle the work that needs to be done by them on a daily basis. This isn’t a job to just collect a paycheck with.
The duties that a CNA does is dependent on the facility they are working in. Some CNA’s find that they are spending a lot of their time inputting patient information into the computer system because the facility is shorthanded on clerical staff. Others find that they are simply going around a nursing home changing out bedpans and bathing patients. But there is a whole range of duties that a CNA must do, and it’s this variety that attracts the professionals that tend to be really good CNA’s for a lifelong career in the health care industry.
CNA’s can do everything from feeding patients to taking vital signs on a regular schedule. They can also be found to be patient advocates as they tend to spend more hands on time with the patients than the nurses and doctors do. If you are working in a nursing home, you may become friends with your regular patients. Some of them may not have family and will look upon you to converse with them and become their adopted family, in a sense. It’s this level of care that you need to have a love for in order to be a great CNA.
All facilities are different and the CNA’s that work in these different facilities are going to have different job descriptions. You may be placed under an RN or LPN and required to make rounds with them, or you may be assigned to transporting patients to and from therapy sessions. All in all, there are as many different aspects to being a CNA as there are people willing to take on this job as a lifelong career.
